I swear, you try to do something nice for somebody… So the never ending battle with S.h.o.d. moved into the bathroom over the winter. First I fixed the cartridge in my shower (disintegrating o-ring equals a leaky faucet handle) and then it got even with me yesterday by helping me fall out of it. Casualties …
Curses! Foiled! Now I remember why I hate textured yarn. Maybe boucle will be more manageable. Back to the store…again. Ridiculous stuff. Hats off to anyone skilled enough to use it.
So, I’ve been a busy bee during the month of October, and thought I’d share some of the projects I’ve been working on this month. The coffee table I destroyed in a fit of hulk-like rage (not really) was replaced with this coffee table made from crates from a big box craft store. I can’t …

Sounds like a button you push to start the engines of an inter-galactic space shuttle right? Wrong. It’s the little doohicky in your furnace that interacts with the gas flow to create heat. It’s basically a small heating element. They’re more common in newer furnaces, replacing the thermocoupler design, but they last from three to five years and mine gave out, hence my previous post.
The bad news is that I had to cool my heels, literally, for a couple of days while I waited for the part to arrive. The good news is that I fixed it, and at a fraction of the cost of a service call. Everything I’ve learned about home improvement has come from my dad or brother, with an occasional assist from YouTube when they’re not on hand for demonstrations. Of course you’ll want to check your brand and serial number to see what type of furnace you have should you encounter the same problem I did, and if this great tutorial by Danny Bishop will work for you, but I thought I’d share my experience because who doesn’t like to save money? Think of all the good books you could buy with that extra cash!
PS: Remember to be safe by turning off the electricity before mucking about in your furnace and replace the panels when you’re done. Replace the furnace air filter while you’re at it and it might ease some of your allergies as well.
